Background:
Public Maps are no code, GUI created, Interactive web maps built on Open-Layers.
Accessing Public Maps:
In the Admin Panel, in the menu panel on the left, click on Public Maps.

BEFORE YOU BEGIN
Before you begin to create a public map you first need make sure that your layer is setup for public access. This can take two forms:
1) If you intend to allows users to perform info clicks on features then in DATA>>LAYERS >> layer_name >> COLUMNS make sure you check the column you want to be made public. e.g
by enabling a column to be made public, XMAP will automatically enable it for Public Access, as seen on the EXTERNAL ACCESS panel.
2) If you don't intend users to able to info click on a layer, such as borough boundary, then go DATA>>LAYERS >> layer_name >> EXTERNAL ACCESS and click Public Access.
How to create a new Public Map:
Click on + in the Maps panel and give you Public Map a name. This name can be edited later.
In the Details panel you can now setup your Public Map with different collections and tools.
GENERAL TAB
- TITLE: Set as required
- EXTENT: This is the default extent associated with your XMAP account. To update the extent, Click on the Preview button next to your Public Map in the Maps panel.
- PROJECTION: Set to the default value for your XMAP account, typically 27700.
- URL: This is automatically generated for you, and is the URL used to access the Public Map
- Embed URL: This is a snippet of code that can be copied into any HTML page to create a Public map set within an iframe. Within the snippet you can change around the width and height of the iframe/map.
TOOL TAB
On the Tools tab you can set various aspects options and configurations for tools used on the Public Map. This includes the ability to have a Postcode or LLPG search tool, legends, watermarks, Laye popups and more.
Within the collection tab you can specify collections and layers that you want to make visible on the Public Map. Note that only layers that have had Public Access enabled in DATA>>LAYERS >> layer_name >> EXTERNAL ACCESS will appear on the map/listed in the legend.
Start my clicking on SHOW COLLECTIONS and then choosing the collections you want to add to the map. You may choose to create specific collections just for layers you want to appear in public maps.
Once a collection is added click on the CONFIGURE START LAYER where you can set which layers are turned on when the Public Map loads, and those layers which can not be accessed. This is done by clicking on the layer so that you can see an eye icon (to make it visible on page load) next to the Laye name or an eye with a line through it to remove it from the collection the user see's. Click SAVE CONFIGURATION .
