Overview
This tool allows you to generate multiple printouts based on a data query, rather than the traditional print tool where you select everything manually.
Usage Example
Example scenarios for using this tool:
- "I want to produce a series of maps showing all planning application sites that contain the word 'Rejected'"
- "I want to produce a series of maps showing all SSSIs that include 'River' in their name"
Method
The Batch Print tool is a workflow-based tool. When you open it you will be guided through the process to produce your printouts.
Click on TOOLS then BATCH PRINT to open the tool.
Query Section
In this section of the workflow you're asked for:
- Choose a Layer.This will be the layer that the query will be based on.
- Choose a Column. This is the column within the layer selected that the query will be based on.
- Type. For your query you can choose between:
- Exactly Matches. The tool will only find results where the text entry you add exactly matches a record in the column of the layer. e.g. if you enter "River Test";
- It will find records in the column of "River Test"
- If will not find records "River Test 2"
- Starts With. The tool will only find results where the text entry you add matches from the start of the record. e.g. if you enter "River Te";
- It will find records "River Test", "River Tetbury", "River Tennison"
- It will not find records "The River Test"
- Contains. The tool will only find results where the text entry you add contains the text anywhere in the record. e.g. if you enter "ver";
- It will find records "RiverTest", "Very Nice Place", "Manvers Street"
- It will not find the records "R Test", "Nice Place", "M Street"
- Query Value. Enter the query text you want for this search. It's possible to include multiple queries. Simply click the box to the right of the query value box to enter line-delimiter values.
Once you've entered the query you want, click NEXT.
Options Section
In this section you can choose the Print options. First, it'll give you an indication of how many records it's found based on your query. If this is none, go back to the Query section and modify your settings.
Now you can enter the print settings for your maps:
- Template. This is the PDF print template to use for the maps.
- Title Column(optional). By choosing one of these, it will automatically populate each map with the text from that column.
- Description Column (optional). By choosing a column, it will automatically populate each map with the text from that column.
- Object/Scale. This allows you to choose the print scaling for each map:
- Object. This will set the extent of the map to be the extent of the feature found in the query. The scale will be dynamic for each map.
- Scale. By fixing a scale, each map will print out at the same scale, no matter the size of the object being printed.
- Additional Layers(optional). By default the printout will only include the layer you're querying and the base map you have switched on. If you'd like to include another layer you can choose it here. This can either be:
- None. No other layers added.
- Current Layers. Only the layers currently switched on will be added.
- Constraints Layers. A group of layers defined by the Constraints Checker.
Once you've configured this as you like, go to the RESULTS section.
Results Section
The first thing to do in the Results section is click PRINT. This will kick off the process for generating all the printouts. You'll see them appear above the Print tool with a download icon.
To cancel the print process, click the CANCEL button. This will stop the process after the current printout has finished.
